Speed fine

The Question (NCE 22 November) indeed raised the questions over motorway speed limits and their relationship to motorway congestion.

Around two years ago, the Highways Agency issued businesses and households along the M62 corridor a questionnaire on the development over the next 10 years of the M62.

My colleagues and I were overflowing with ideas and not one related to lowering maximum speed limits. The emphasis was mainly in separating HGV from private cars, utilising more than the standard 'rush hours' of every day and having a minimum speed limit as they do in parts of Europe. I have still yet to see a response to this survey.

The fact therefore that the government is considering 50mph speed limits shows how little effort has been made in assessing the true problems.
