Speed control: the ICE view

News analysis

ICE president Mark Whitby continues to be outspoken on the need to control traffic speed. His views are based on a passion to save lives.

'You can argue with the detail, but not the proportions. You are 3.5 times more likely to be killed walking in the UK as you are in Holland, ' says Whitby.

'The number of child deaths in cars is rising because parents have realised that our roads are not safe for our children, ' says Whitby. 'So they are buying their second car, and driving their kids around.

The latest statistics, he adds, show one alarming increase - a 50% increase in child deaths in cars. 'These are shocking statistics against which we should be measuring governments and professionals.'
