Smith quits ICE for HGB

ICE COMMUNICATIONS director Alan Smith is to return to Dutch contractor HBG after just 12 months with the Institution.

Smith has been the driving force behind the 'ICE Communications Plan for 2000 and beyond', which is at the heart of the Institution's attempts to reignite the image of the profession.

Smith returns to HBG as public relations director with its building division HBG Construction, which includes the former Kyle Stewart and Higgs & Hill businesses.

Smith joined the ICE after 10 years as head of public relations at HBG's civil engineering subsidiary Edmund Nuttall.

Smith said that his good relationship with HBG Construction chief executive Adrian Franklin from the time they were both with Edmund Nuttall was a deciding factor. He will start his new job in November.

ICE chief executive Mike Casebourne said: 'It is a pity to lose Alan at this time of rapid change at the Institution'.
