Slur motion

In answer to Christopher Ward's slur on cyclists (NCE last week), I have just completed cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats and in all 956 miles I did not cycle on footpaths once. The surfacing on paths is usually awful compared with roads, giving terrible ride quality. If more timid cyclists do resort to footpaths, it is only because they are afraid of motorists.
