Slow down for safety's sake

Like John Rastall (Letters 5 June) I am also a frequent follower of the great roads debate but unlike him I consider that ride comfort should only be a minor factor in design. Ride quality and, more importantly, safety can be greatly improved by quite small adjustments in speed.

I suggest that he tries this and helps to save the taxpayer from spending large sums on ride specifications much higher than currently used in many other countries.
