Sir Ken Jackson appointed chairman of Nirex

News :

Sir Ken Jackson, general secretary of the Amalgamated Engineering & Electrical Union, has been appointed chairman of Nirex, the company responsible for managing UK nuclear waste. He replaces David Bonser of BNFL.

Jackson's appointment is seen as an important step towards making Nirex independent of the nuclear industry, which currently has controlling interests in the company. An independent Nirex is believed by many to be key to developing a credible nuclear waste management strategy.
