Sika helps BBGE pile production

Fast turnaround of precast pile moulds at Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering’s factory in Nottinghamshire is being aided with the addition of an admixture from Sika.

According to Sika, use of the Viscocrete Premier admixture creates a high early strength that enables the piles to be released more quickly from the moulds, and also allows them to be put to use on site earlier too.

BBGE also uses the admixture to create a self-compacting concrete for its pile production that eliminates the need for vibration by increasing the workability and easing the flow around the reinforcement. Sika says that avoiding the need for vibration creates a quieter working environment and faster construction times.

BBGE also uses Sika’s Rapid 2 and Sika Plastiment 180 admixtures in its precast pile production to increase the rate of setting, improve handling and reduce waste.
