Sarajevo based Oxfam engineer Edin Begovic (right) has been discovering how infrastructure management is approached in the UK. His trip to Britain was sponsored by Julian Carter, RedR engineer and managing director of CERAD, a UK civil engineering company specialising in providing support to areas hit by disaster. Carter met Begovic while working in Serbia last year, and was sufficiently impressed by Begovic's professionalism to want to keep the relationship going when he returned to the UK.
Carter saw the visit as an opportunity to strip away the 'streets paved with gold' perception of Britain, and to show that British businesses are 'not all about profit'. Begovic spent time with several UK consultancies and with Bradford City Council's public transport projects department while he was in the country. Carter hopes that in Begovic he has created an 'ambassador for Britain'.
