Shanks builds waste to fuel plant

Waste contractor Shanks is building a £94M mechanical and biological treatment (MBT) facility at Frog Island in Essex. It will be one of the first to come on line in September 2006. Consultant is Mouchel Parkman.

The facility will process up to 180,000t of municipal waste by fi rst separating out recyclable components and then shredding and drying the remaining refuse.

The residual waste is Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) and is mostly shredded paper and plastics.
