Seven on the way up Stuart Robertson

Recruitment profile

Twenty three year old Stuart Robertson joined Carl Bro fi ve years ago straight from college where he had taken A' levels in IT, geography and maths.

'I was looking for a career that would use my strengths in these areas, and I saw the job advertised in the Yorkshire Post, ' he explains. 'I didn't want to continue studying full time - I was ready to start work, but still wanted to keep studying at the same time. ' The job he saw advertised was as a technician with Carl Bro, and included day release at Leeds Metropolitan University to do an HND.

When he first joined, Robertson spent six months working with Northumbrian Water as part of a team of 12 people. Most of the work was based on site.

Since then he has been based in Leeds and his workload has changed as his experience has increased. Five years after joining Carl Bro he now runs his own small schemes, arranging for all the surveying to be done and drawings produced, and liaising with clients and contractors.

This summer Robertson's part time studies will finish, and he will graduate from university with a degree.
