Seven on the way up Linsey Cottrell

Recruitment profile

Just before taking maternity leave a year ago, Linsey Cottrell was promoted to principal environment consultant in Carl Bro's Leeds office. She returned recently to start her new job on a part time basis. 'The company was very accommodating and left it up to me how many days I wanted to do when I came back, ' she says.

Cottrell's core experience is in contaminated land and environmental risk assessment but, since joining Carl Bro she has broadened her expertise to include corporate environmental services and pollution control.

Since her promotion, Cottrell's role has involved more line management, and involvement in projects at technical review level. 'To some degree you can take on a level of project management from a quite junior level, because the opportunities are there on smaller projects, ' she explains.

'There is a flexible working structure with the opportunity for personal development as a project manager and/or technical consultant.' 'I've felt like I'm still up there - I haven't been put on a back burner because I'm on a part time basis - and I still have a lot of involvement with key clients.'
