Services disrupted

FLOODING knocked out power and heating/hot water supply plants in urban areas across the Czech republic. Power lines were brought down, blacking out large areas.

Track and bridge foundations were washed away on national and regional railways, with massive damage to berthing and quayside equipment at river ports.

Crippled wastewater treatment plants have caused major pollution of rivers. It could be months before sewage can be properly treated.
