Consultant Gifford is expanding its port development and marine engineering team with the appointment of Gavin Lloyd as Technical Director.

Lloyd is a highly qualified project engineer with 20 years’ experience designing ports, container terminals and other coastal and marine facilities around the world. He has worked most recently in the Middle East where he was the design manager for Abu Dhabi Port Company’s Khalifa Port and prior to that, Dubai Ports World’s new Jebel Ali Container Terminal.

He has also been responsible for design at the King Abdullah Economic City Port near Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. He has also worked on major ports and coastal projects in Lithuania, Italy, Holland, the United States and Africa.

He has masters degrees in transport shipping management and in civil engineering and has co-authored a number of strategic studies on ports and marinas in the Middle East. He is a chartered member of the Institute of Transport and a member of the Institution of Logistics.

Nick Clarke, technical director of Gifford leading the marine engineering team, said: “Gavin’s arrival marks an important step forward in our marine capabilities and means we are able to offer a wider range of engineering design services to our marine clients.”
