Sealing a partnership

The Kennet & Avon Partnership, which comprises the local authorities along the route of the Kennet & Avon Canal, the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust and British Waterways, has awarded a contract to Morrison Construction for work on two sections near Devizes at Allington and All Cannings where heavy leakages through the embankment have developed over a number of years.

Morrison is installing a geosynthetic clay lining over a length of 1.6km together with the construction of a landing mooring and other items of canal infrastructure.

The work is to be carried out within a partnering framework, with safety and environmental considerations top priority. Particular attention will be paid to preservation of aquatic and other vegetation and wild life. Sensitivity will also be needed in the repair of old masonry structures and in dealing with any archaeological remains uncovered during the works.
