Graduate profile: Stephanie Fallis
Stephanie Fallis studied for her BSc in civil engineering at the University of Ulster, Belfast. During her time as a student, she has worked for a local firm of civil engineers. By the time that Stephanie graduated in 2007, the company had been acquired by Scott Wilson.
The combination of the resources of an international major player in the market, coupled with a friendly team that she already knew and liked made Stephanie’s career choice all the easier. She applied to join the Belfast office, and began working for Scott Wilson in the summer of 2007. "I have joined the Highways and Environment Section", Stephanie explained. "The support for me as a graduate engineer is fantastic. I am signed up to a training agreement with ICE, and am following the Scott Wilson three year graduate programme. This is basically a set of three courses a year for three consecutive years, all designed to help you work towards reaching the targets that you need to achieve to become a chartered engineer. I find the courses really helpful – not just for my professional studies, but for the day job, too. I like meeting the other graduates from different offices."
Stephanie is currently working on two key projects – the A1 Beech Hill to Cloghogue and the A2 Shore Road. "I’m given the right amount of responsibility for someone at my level," she said. "This firm is a great place to work –there is always someone to ask if I need help. In my office everyone is very friendly; it is more like a family here. Staff do get opportunities to work in the international offices as well, which is a great incentive if you want to get experience of working internationally."
