Scorpion style

Amey Fleet Services has developed a multi-purpose vehicle, the Scorpion, which is now in use with Amey Rail.

Built around a Mercedes Benz Unimog, the Scorpion has already proved highly successful in its main role as an on-track ballast regulator complete with brush. It can also be fitted with a variety of attachments to carry out tasks ranging from scrap recovery to hedge trimming and ditch cleaning. Fitted with a trailer it can act as a support vehicle carrying rail and welding kit.

The Scorpion is fitted with a hydraulic lorry loader which reaches forward over the cab to attach the dozer blade, and this can be used for other lifting duties. The vehicle can be used on either road or rail and is said to have a speed of 32km/h on rail or 80km/h on the road.
