SATRO do nicely

I welcome and support your thoughtful article on the value of school governors (NCE 29 November). You did not mention the relevant activities in schools provided by the Science and Technology Regional Organisations (SATRO).

Retired and active engineers, known as Neighbourhood Engineers, devote time and effort in numerous projects in both primary and secondary schools to motivate and excite young people about science, engineering and technology.

In my experience, these sessions are welcomed and enjoyed by pupils and teachers alike. The aim is to prepare the ground for future engineers and scientists by example as much as by stimulation.
