Safety covered

Letters

The HSE's recent press release of shock statistics on construction deaths was rightly highlighted (NCE 16 November).

However, from the NCE coverage to date, many of our colleagues may be unaware that it was accompanied by another press release - available on the website www. hse. gov. uk - on the basic steps to be taken to address the main causes of the deaths and injuries during construction work in 1999-2000.

This release includes a challenge to all parts of the industry to consider the contribution they can make to improved health and safety culture and performance.
