RSK develops Decc gas exploration roadmap

RSK has completed work to develop a UK-wide roadmap for the planning and permission processes for the exploration and appraisal for unconventional gas operations for the Department for Energy and Climate Change (Decc).

The roadmap for operations such as shale gas and coalbed methane provides a clear introduction of the legislative framework, regulation and best practices that apply during the feasibility stages of development.

“The map will help companies that are seeking to exploit unconventional gas resources by guiding them through the planning and permitting process,” said RSK director Sue Sljivic. “The interactive online map will also serve as a simple guide for planning authorities and environmental regulators that need to apply the regulations and legislation that relates to onshore gas operations.

“Given the high level of interest surrounding hydraulic fracturing, the roadmap may also be of interest to members of the public.”
