Along with his two brothers, Adekunte is expected to head up the administration of several towns in the Ayetoro region of south-western Nigeria.
While the news of his father's regal appointment was not wholly unexpected, it still came as something of a surprise to the 29-year-old.
"All along, I knew it was possible, but it wasn't something I was sure about because we are from one of the three ruling families in the kingdom," he told NCE.
"I see the new development as a sudden, but interesting twist in my career," he added. "While I will really miss my daily routine of doing designs for structures below the ground, which has been a huge part of my daily life for over seven years, I look forward to the interesting challenges that come with the new position."
The Dublin-based Nigerian is optimistic that education and skills will be beneficial in his new ducal role and he is confident he can bring something to the role that was not offered by his predecessors.
"My professional and academic experience will be invaluable to me in the discharge of my duties to the community; especially in the area of physical planning and infrastructural development," he said.
