Rotherham Market Roof

Rotherham wanted to raise the profile of its market which was proving less attractive for local traders and customers than rival shopping venues which include the out of town Meadowhall centre. The market stalls occupied an open court within a development suffering from a dowdy 1970s image.

With completion of the project that aim has been achieved and turnover at the market reinvigorated thanks to the spectacular fabric cover. The tented roof makes a focal point for the area as well as supplying weather protection for traders and shoppers.

Pad foundations were excavated and concreted within the semi basement car park below the marketplace.

Holes were cut and reinforced through the intervening concrete floor slab and a tower crane used to slot in preassembled components when the market was not trading.
