Road pricing schemes highlighted

Transport secretary Alistair Darling this week highlighted road pricing schemes as examples of projects eligible for government backing from the Transport Innovation Fund (TIF), which will allocate £290M in 2008/09. The fund will swell to £2.5bn by 2010 and Darling has also set aside £18M for initial scheme development. Priority for TIF funding will be given to schemes generating the greatest GDP increases and offering the highest value for money. More detailed guidance for local authorities will be published this winter.
