EIGHTY PER CENT of Edinburgh residents support road user charging to fund city transport improvements, the City Council reported last week.
A report produced last week, based on a recent consultation exercise, has shown that congestion charging was by far the most popular option of three transport funding plans presented.
More than 18,000 responses showed that 58% supported congestion charging, 22% workplace charging and 15% existing funding. Among businesses, 51% supported road user charging, 18% workplace charging and 24% existing funding.
An interim report on the findings was presented to the second meeting of the Charging Development Partnership between local authorities interested in charging and the DETR, last week.
