RINGING THE CHANGES

News

RINGING THE CHANGES: Assembly of a 70t galvanised steel 'carousel' atop Cardiff's 88m high BT Stadium House by contractor Amec marks completion of the first phase of a major overhaul of the building, increasing its overall height to 120m. The 1970s concrete framed structure had developed serious structural defects in its cladding, which culminated in a partial failure during piling work for the adjacent Millennium Stadium.

Working with consultant Parsons Brinckerhoff, BT is using the enforced structural repair to revitalise the tower's appearance. The tower will be reclad in a silver and white 'mantle' and the top crowned with a floodlit 'Skylon'.
