Ring bridge wins Sheffield competition

Structural engineer Ramboll Whitbybird, in partnership with Danish architect Tim Norlund, has won an international design competition for a new footbridge in Sheffield.
The judges were "inspired" by the simple ring design which beat 100 other designs in the RIBA organised competition.

The bridge will provide a safe route over the A630 Sheffield Parkway, a busy dual carriageway which links Sheffield City Centre with the M1 motorway.

Work to build the £2M bridge will begin this autumn with completion in summer 2009.
