RICS wants cash bonus for transport hubs

HIGHER DENSITY development around transport hubs should be allowed in return for cash from developers for transport projects, a new study claimed this week.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors report states that the creation of Transport Development Areas with relaxed planning restrictions would create a valuable source of funding for transport interchanges.

The report states: 'The TDA approach into existing land use and the transport planning system would greatly assist the Government in attaining its current policy objectives for integrated land use and transport planning.'

The RICS report is based on case studies of eight areas and calls for the TDA approach to be included in revised DETR planning guidance.
