OVER 70 members and friends have attended the 20th anniversary luncheon of the Southern Retired Engineers.
Since the inaugural meeting on 30 September 1980, the society, which includes members of the civil, municipal and structural engineering institutions, has held 70 meetings and visited over 200 places of interest.
With an emphasis on exploiting the increasing free time available to those who are already retired or are approaching retirement, membership of the group has grown steadily over the years and is now approaching 200.
Of these 20 joined in the inaugural year.
The programme of events for 2001 was determined at the recent AGM.
