Results round-up


A strong performance in engineering consultancy and design services boosted Amec's profits last year. Group turnover increased from £3.1bn to £4bn with pre-tax profits increasing from £79.3M to £98.9M. Consulting and design services saw operating profits leap from £1.8M to £11.6M on turnover up from £31M to £233M, reflecting acquisition of US Agra business.

Taylor Woodrow

Profits and turnover from Taylor Woodrow's construction operations fell dramatically last year as the housing and property group cut back its contracting business.

Construction operating profits dropped to £1.1M from £2.8M, while turnover fell 27% to £390M.

However, group turnover increased from £1.5bn to £1.55bn and pretax profits were up from £122.6M to £221.5M.


Growing emphasis on privately financed and negotiated work boosted Mowlem's construction profits in 2000. Construction operating profits increased from £17.2M to £22.3M on turnover up from £1.11bn to £1.15bn. Facilities management increased operating profits from £3.1M to £5M on turnover up from £146M to £150M.

Ballast Nedam

Provisions for claims hit Ballast Nedam's UK construction division profits. UK turnover increased from £381.3M to £421.3M but operating profits fell from £2.3M to £800,000.
