Reporting team

The report was funded by: Network Rail, Ischebeck Titan, Phi Group, the Highways Agency, the Department of Trade and Industry and CIRIA's core programme sponsors.

Following CIRIA's usual practice, the project was guided by a steering group of 14 UK soil nailing experts drawn from academia, infrastructure owners, client bodies, consultants, contractors and suppliers. This was chaired by Martin Pedley of Cementation Foundations Skanska. CIRIA's project manager was Andrew Pitchford.

The report's authors were Catherine Dew and Baran Ozsoy (Arup), Nick Wharmby (Brian Perry Civil), John Judge (Keller) and Tony Barley (SBMA). Alan Phear (Arup) was the project manager and editor for the report. Support was provided by Devon Mothersille (Geoserve Global) and Paul Johnson (TRL).

Tony O'Brien and Nigel Pye (both Mott MacDonald) provided advice on the design of flexible facings and contributed a case history; and Peter Stevenson (Atkins) assisted with one of the worked design examples.

The authors would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of this project.
