Rep it up

Letters

If the ICE has thousands of engineers on its books then it has thousands of potential reps, able to go out to our local schools, colleges and universities and promote our profession. Each of us surely has some responsibility to do this rather than complain that someone else should wave a magic wand to make us visible and important.

ICE should give us the equipment - promotional material suited for the age groups. We can at least deliver this to our schools and establish ourselves as a contact for information on our profession. I should think that many of us could each cover several schools, including those our children go to. Some of us could go further: give talks, show films, advise on careers.

The information must be interesting and worth keeping.

A similar approach could be extended to other groups in our communities.

Many of us are guilty of sitting back and expecting ICE to do it all for our subscriptions. I am. We have to be more visible, and we can do this ourselves directly, where we live.
