Remediation gives former steelworks site new role

SHEPHERD HOMES has undertaken its largest brownfield redevelopment to date at the former Markham Steelworks in Chesterfield.

AIG Engineering Group provided a complete solution for the site: investigation, risk assessment, project management, design of the remediation strategy and structural and engineering design.

The work was carried out through AIG Consultants and AIG Remediation. The project involved demolition of the former steelworks and associated concrete crushing and recycling works.

Contaminated land remediation and major earthworks, including the stabilisation of a former river channel, were also carried out.

New infrastructure for the site included two bridges and a bridge refurbishment.

The AIG group also installed the damp proof course for all of the house foundations.
