Registration for all

Clients are working with Construction Industry Training Board to establish a nationally accepted, single point, occupational registration scheme for the country's 1.5M site workers.

'We aim to cover 50% of operatives by the end of 2001 and 100% by 2002, ' said Construction Clients Confederation chairman and BAA group technical director Mike Roberts.

Registration is the first step to being able to ensure all workers are safe to work on construction sites.

CCC runs the Clients Charter which is a voluntary set of standards including health and safety.

Charter clients have commited to work with suppliers from the outset to plan for health and safety and to work only with suppliers which have themselves demonstrated commitment to better safety practice.
