RedR mobilises for cyclone hit Burma

Disaster relief charity RedR has received approaches from Save the Children and Merlin (Medical Emergency Relief International) for logistics staff for their Burmese disaster relief operations.

"As Burma has now opened its doors to foreign humanitarian aid workers, the RedR recruitment team is starting to receive requests," said a RedR spokesman.

RedR recruitment officer Alessandro Iaconi told NCE:

"We are expecting more and more requests to start coming in now."

RedR is also flying a medical team to China following a Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) call to action.

On the advice of the Department for International Development, the FCO contacted RedR.

Within 48 hours the charity had mobilised a team of seven health experts including Dr Tony Redmond, the UK's leading earthquake orthopaedic surgeon, two emergency medicine consultants and a public health specialist.
