Flood Risk Management

The Agency's flood defence workload means there are plenty of vacancies. 'With additional pressures on delivery within flood defence, new skills, experience, and people learning the business are needed. In 2002, we sought to fill over 250 vacancies in two large national campaigns, plus many more with locally managed recruitment, ' says the Environment Agency national recruitment advisor Jane Mitchell. Among those needed are graduate civil engineers who may develop into future leaders.

'The major tasks within flood defence are strategic planning, flood warning, improvements, regulation and operations. Recruits will find themselves working in any one of these areas.'
