Recent acquisitions push up Balfour Beatty forward order book to £8.8bn

In the company interim results announced today Balfour Beatty announced a record forward order book of £8.8bn, boosted by the acquisition of rails, civil and roads businesses.
Turnover increased from £2.3bn in the first half of 2005 to £2.8bn in the first six months of 2006.Pre-tax profit fell from £67M for the same period last year to £39M this year following the sign off of £21M in exceptional items. The company's most recent acquisition of UK civil engineering contractor Birse, is set to be finalised next week.
