Reaching across Europe

Other local association links with central and eastern Europe.

North West & Poland & Russia Poland was the first country to be adopted, and strong links have been forged since 1990.

Many activities have taken place, and a small association was formed in Poland in early 1995. The association continues to hold activities in Poland and Russia, most recently involving graduates and students (NCE 7 September 2000).

London & Romania A lecture tour to Romania took place in June 1996 at the request of the Romanian Union of Civil Engineers' Associations. In June 1997 a group of senior Romanian engineers paid a reciprocal visit to the UK.

Midlands & Hungary The first visit was made to Budapest in December 1998.

Contact has been firmly established with the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers, the Technical University of Budapest and other bodies.

Several exchange visits have taken place and Budapest is now a branch of the Midlands association.

West of Scotland & Baltic States A preliminary visit was made to the civil engineering association of Estonia and Lithuania in October 1999.
