Rate of increase in building

Rate of increase in building is slowing down, according to a survey carried out in the last quarter of 1997 by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors of its members working in the building sector. Output was only up 2.3% on the previous quarter. The decline is blamed on a drop in government spending and the economic crisis in South East Asia.
