Railtrack's first quarter operating results

Railtrack's first quarter operating results show investment up 48% on the same period last year at £426M, with an additional £66M spent on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link. Signals passed at danger are down 28% on first quarter figures for 1999, with 37% reduction in broken rails. Track quality is reported to be just 1.1% short of 2001 improvement targets.

However, delays caused by Railtrack are up 1%, with passenger trains experiencing a 5% reduction in performance.
