This week Railtrack also presented Virgin Rail with its programme to deliver 200km/h train paths on the WCML by 2 June 2002. The train operator has invested £2.2bn on high speed tilting trains for the route and fears that Railtrack will not deliver a route for them. Railtrack faces stiff financial penalties if it cannot meet the 2002 target date.
