Rail station has 99M passengers in a year

Britain has edged closer to its first 100M-passenger rail station, according to official data.

Statistics released by regulator the Office of Rail and Road showed that London Waterloo received 99.2M passenger entries and exits in the 12 months to 31 March 15.

This was up 1% from the previous year.

The top seven busiest stations were in London, with Birmingham New Street the most used outside the capital at 35.3M.

Pevensey Bay in Kent saw the biggest increase in passenger use of all stations that were open throughout the last two years, with entries and exits up more than 200% to more than 25,000.
