Queen's Birthday honours

Fraser Morrison (F), chairman of Edinburgh-based Morrison Construction Group, has been knighted for services to the government-sponsored Highlands & Islands Enterprise. As chairman since 1992, Morrison is credited with spearheading this remote region's economic revival and helping to create up to 3,000 new jobs annually by encouraging a more diversified economy. The honour also goes to Robert Malpas, co-chairman of Eurotunnel, for services to science and technology.

CBEs are awarded to Stephen Glaister of the London School of Economics for his services to public transport and to former London Transport chairman and chief executive Peter Ford. Also honoured is Alistair Wivell, managing director of Balfour Beatty Construction.

John Ekins (F), former president of the County Surveyors Society and county surveyor at Hampshire County Council is awarded an OBE along with Alex Sandberg (F), chairman Messrs Sandberg Consulting Engineers for services to civil engineering. David Pickles (F) receives an OBE for his work as deputy county surveyor in Staffordshire as does Brian Tierney, national president of the Federation of Master Builders, for services to the Construction Industry Training Board. Alan Stroud receives an OBE for services to the Institute of Road Transport Engineering.
