Put Maplin back on the map

The debate on the need for extra runway capacity in the London area (NCE 7 February), to meet future increases in air traffic, recalls to mind that a scheme for a new airport on the Maplin Sands in the Thames estuary was engineered many years ago. Sadly this fell by the wayside.

It is time to dig out the old drawings and reports, dust them down, have a look at them again to see if work could start on the scheme again. Hong Kong has built Chep Lak - London could build Maplin.
