Props to remain under M1 until Christmas

Propping equipment installed underneath the M1 in north London due to April’s fire is likely to remain in place until Christmas while engineers complete investigations into the damage.

Temporary works equipment supplier Mabey Hire Services installed propping underneath the bridge to allow it to reopen following the fire.

The firm said it expects the props to remain underneath the bridge until Christmas while the Highways Agency completes its testing on the bridge and decides on the remedial works.

The Highways Agency has not confirmed a timescale on how long the props will remain in place until its investigations into the extent of the damage has been completed.

April’s fire broke out in a scrapyard beneath the 1964-built concrete bridge in Mill Hill, north London, between M1 junction 2 and Scratchwood Services.
