Project profile

Leading KCRC's huge portfolio of work is the £5.1bn West Rail line.

West Rail will serve people in the north west New Territories of Hong Kong, where high population growth is forecast in the coming decade. The 30.3km journey between Tuen Mun Centre and Yen Chow Street will take half an hour.

Construction will be complex, with much of the line passing through mountains and built up areas. Over 90% will be in tunnel, on viaduct or enclosed. There will be a depot and nine stations, most of which will have interchanges with mass transit or light rail lines.

Two design and build tunnelling contracts are already on site. Detailed design for the remaining civils work is nearing completion, and will be split into 13 construction contracts, all to be let by the end of the year.
