Problem solvers

Scott Wilson Pavement Engineering has developed a number of techniques for track bed investigation within the constraints of an operational railway.

Apart from existing HSTRC records, three complementary techniques are used to collect data during the site investigation. These are ground probing radar; the automatic ballast sampler used in conjunction with appropriate materials testing techniques; and the falling weight deflectometer.

These techniques can be used over short lengths to solve major problem sites or along a route to help optimise maintenance and remedial measures.
