Probe on the Don

Bridges : Products and services

State of the art structural monitoring is being installed in a new 15 span viaduct, as part of the Doncaster North Bridge over the River Don.

Rate of corrosion, temperature and resistivity of the test electrodes and reinforcing steel will each be monitored by 34 embedded probes. The probes will be linked via a computer network to the client, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council.

Specialist contractor Testconsult of Warrington also installed fleximeters, which will monitor abutment displacement. With minimal maintenance, the total system has a continuous design life of at least 60 years.
