Prediction competition

Following the success of the pile prediction competition at the 2004 BGA Annual Conference, a further competition is being run this year.

The competition will relate to a number of dummy pad foundations built on fill (compacted to Highways Agency specification for highway works) over glacial till and subjected to load testing.

Ground conditions and loading information will be provided. BGA members (or teams comprising at least one BGA member) are invited to predict the settlement behaviour which will be compared against actual measurements.

The competition winner will be invited to the conference to receive a prize and explain the methodology of their successful prediction.

The results, with discussion, will be published in GE. Full details of the competition, including ground conditions, loadings can be found at www. britishgeotech. org. uk.

Deadline for entries is 31 May.
