Power line move on construction critical path

BURYING OVERHEAD power lines across the Olympic park site in the Lower Lea valley is critical to delivering London's 2012 Games, one bid official said in Singapore.

Work must be complete by mid-2008 so that parts of the Olympic park site can be freed up for construction.

Electricity companies have already set a summer 2008 deadline for switching power from above to below ground lines. This coincides with the time of year when electricity demand is lowest.

Cables are expected to be buried in a 6km bored tunnel passing under the busy A11.
