Her Majesty the Queen is due in Poole on Wednesday to open the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's new Lifeboat College. The college and associated survival building provide a residential training and conference facility for lifeboat crews and others involved in running the service.

Included are a 25m by 12m by 4m deep wave tank, lifeboat simulator and engine and training workshops. The £17M college was designed by Poynton Bradbury Wynter Cole and FaberMaunsell. Contractor was Dean & Dyball. Mowlem Building erected the survival building to a design by Ellis Belk & Associates. A PIANC visit is scheduled to the college on 1719 September.
