Polyfelt Geosynthetics

Polyfelt Geosynthetics (UK) has supplied erosion protection mats and fixing pins to stabilise a railway embankment at Hornchurch, Essex.

The embankment, on London Underground's District Line, had begun to show signs of instability and slipping, presenting a threat to safety of passengers. Main contractor Mabey Construction specified Polyfelt's Polymat 2020-20 to stabilise the slope.

Some 9,300m 2of the monofil mat system was installed to protect the new 1:2:1 slope against erosion and provide support for grass and shrubs that will be planted on the embankment.

The flexible matting can adapt to irregularities in the subgrade and offers erosion protection even in the crucial root growing phase. It was reinforced with a 20kN geogrid to increase stability of the 15m long slope.
